Alice Maxine Quinn was born, two weeks early, around 3:30 on 8 Jul 2005. Mother and baby are both doing fine. Alice weighed 4.46 kg (9 lb 13 oz) (ouch!) and arrived fairly easily, after only 2.5 hours of labour. Erica is pleased to report that her epidural (actually a spinal) worked properly this time.

Alice initially had a few problems with her breathing (it’s called “grunting”; I kid you not!), so she spent the first night in the Special Care ward, where this photo was taken.

I didn’t want to startle her, or the other babies, so I didn’t use a flash. Fortunately, there was plenty of light coming through the nearby window, even though it was 5:20. Welcome to Scotland in mid-summer!

The problem cleared up quickly and she was with her mother by the next day.

The next day, Alice is feeling well enough to meet her big sister, Joan.

Just about a week old, and meeting Granny Sandee for the first time.

This is the first time Alice ever went on a swing. She enjoyed it then, and still does.

Even after riding all the way from our place to Victoria Park, Alice still had the energy to run around. The ride home, however, was a different story.
